Applications are invited for a 6-month full-time ERC Researcher Position in “Production of Red Blood Cells” under the supervision of Professor Mantalaris and Dr Panoskaltsis.

The aim of the project is the production of human red blood cells in a 3D hollow fibre bioreactor. The project will involve the handling of human cord blood and the isolation of mononuclear cells, the fabrication of the bioreactor, the seeding and operation of the bioreactor as well as characterisation of the bioreactor at the gene, protein and cellular level. The project builds on current work in the research groups of Professor Mantalaris and Dr. Panoskaltsis.

The successful candidate should be motivated and independent. They should have a Chemical Engineering background (or in a related area). They should have experience performing research and hold a PhD degree or equivalent (or close to completion). A proven publication track-record is essential. Experience on 3D culture systems, working with human cord blood, molecular biology techniques, immunocytochemistry and image analysis, SEM, flow cytometry, and fabrication of bioreactors is required.

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £32,380 - £34,040
