Detail information about job UCL Senior Teaching Fellow - MA Early Years Education. Terms and conditions vacancy

Academic departments are the focus for strategic and operational decision-making within the Institute and where the majority of academic and revenue making activities take place and are managed. DLL is a large specialist research and teaching department of approximately 110 academic staff. The breadth of DLL’s work includes internationally renowned research, outstanding teaching and teacher training, and cutting edge consultancy and knowledge mobilisation. The department has an international reputation for its work on learning, teaching and leadership, including in Early Years, Early Childhood and Primary/Elementary Education, and through the work of The London Centre for Leadership in Learning which is one of the department’s centres. Our main aim is to contribute new ideas and knowledge that have the widest possible impact in order to enhance education as an academic discipline, and as a field of practice and policy. Two main areas of our expertise are: a) The ways in which children and young people learn through the processes of teaching, and b) The vital role of leadership, including school leadership, in relation to learning.

The UCL Institute of Education offers a range of Masters level programmes including an MA in Early Years Education (EYE) delivered face-to-face on campus and online. The MA EYE provides the opportunity for students to enhance their professional development informed by national and international research in early year’s education, to develop their understanding of education research methodology, and to conduct their own small-scale research project. This role will contribute to the teaching and assessment of the MA Early Years Education programme. You will deliver a range of teaching and assessment activities, including lectures, setting/marking coursework to postgraduates and select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students. The post holder will be responsible for seeking ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery, obtaining and analysing feedback, supervising practical work, advising students on techniques, planning independent teaching contributions, contributing to the design or revision of course units, and helping develop appropriate teaching approaches. You will also contribute to curriculum development, the development and delivery of our Early Years Masters modules and the organisation of the MA programme and to the recruitment and induction of students.

The successful candidate will have a master’s degree relevant to early year’s education. You will have the ability to teach successfully at higher education level. Ideally, you should have sufficient experience to apply for membership of the Higher Education Academy, i.e. experience of teaching and/or supporting learning in higher education. The ability to plan and organise the delivery and assessment of courses, and experience of designing course materials. The ability and qualifications to supervise students at master’s level. A PhD or equivalent in subject relevant to early years. Experience of research including research publications or potential to carry out research.
