Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in applied health research? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Research Fellow/Assistant to work on a new study, concerned with information technologies and patient safety. The study is particularly interested in the value of linking systems between GPs, NHS community and other services, and local authority social services. The NHS has a mixed track record in designing and implementing IT systems, and this is an opportunity to produce evidence that will help to improve the NHS’ performance in this area. The study is funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Health Services and Delivery Research programme.
The study involves undertaking a realist synthesis, a novel literature review method and you will be involved in every step of the project. It will start with an initial survey of the literature about the effects, both positive and negative of information technologies on the safety of patient care. The findings will be reviewed by a number of nominal groups, including NHS policy makers, clinical staff and patients and carers. Their views will inform the main phase of the literature review, which will be designed to identify what types of IT systems, implemented in what ways, improve patient safety.
To be considered for the Grade 7 Research Fellow position you will have a PhD (or be close to completion) in applied health research, or in a relevant discipline as well as experience of using realist methods. If you are interested in applying for the Grade 6 Research Assistant position you will have first a degree or Masters in applied health research or a relevant discipline.
