The University of Birmingham is seeking to appoint a talented Project Officer (Junior Project Manager) to join the University’s Project Office. Based in IT Services, the Project Office delivers strategic and complex IT and non-IT projects across the University. The team acts as a central resource providing professional project management, process mapping expertise, and supporting project managers across the University in the delivery of their projects. As part of the team, you will be an integral part of the Project Office, with responsibilities including both managing and supporting projects, committee/meeting servicing, liaising with stakeholders, and supporting the University’s Project Community.

You will play a significant role in supporting the management of projects and furthering the long term development of professional project management practices within the Project Office and the University.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should have a significant amount of experience managing and supporting projects and working with key stakeholders to successfully deliver projects on time and to budget. Experience of working in the higher education sector is not necessary but would be advantageous.

The candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent or have experience in a project management role with formal training in project management techniques and methodologies such as Prince2, APMP, or Agile being highly desirable. Exposure to ITIL service management will also be an advantage.

The candidate will have strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills at all levels. Experience of process mapping and facilitation techniques are also desirable. You will have strong skills in the use of desktop systems, e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, diary/calendar software and diagramming packages.
