Detail information about job Research Fellow in Electric Propulsion. Terms and conditions vacancy
The Surrey Space Centre (SSC) is seeking to recruit a fulltime researcher until June 2018 for 10 months (with potential for extension). This work is funded through industry and institutional collaborations investigating novel electric propulsion concepts for small satellites. The project will run in parallel with other Electric Propulsion (EP) activities within the Space Centre, and it is expected that the candidate will help support other research projects as required.
The Surrey Space Centre, part of the Department of Electronic Engineering, is a world-class institution for space research with a growing interest in Electric Propulsion for the small satellite industry. The downscaling of electric thrusters to lower levels of power suitable for application on small satellite platforms is a subject of ongoing research within the Surrey Space Centre. The successful candidate will join the plasma dynamics and propulsion group, and be conducting hands-on laboratory investigations on innovative electric propulsion prototypes.
This post ideally requires somebody with demonstrable experience in electric propulsion and/or experimental low-pressure plasmas. The candidate will have a good working knowledge of plasma diagnostics and vacuum chamber facilities. In addition, the candidate will have experience with procurement, manufacture, experimental setup, and testing. Preference will be given to those with a proven research and publication track record, preferably with PhD and/or practical industrial experience.
For further information, please contact Guglielmo Aglietti ([email protected]) and Andrea Lucca Fabris ([email protected]).
Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£30,688) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate. Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£31,604).
