Detail information about job Research Associate Legal and Scientific. Terms and conditions vacancy

Location: remote working, so open to all geographical areasHours: variable (by negotiation)

Global Security and Disaster Management Limited (GSDM) is an exciting new company which is uniquely placed in offering specialist legal advice across a broad range of global security (e.g. armed conflict, terrorism, water or food insecurity) and disaster management (both ‘natural’ and ‘man-made’ disasters) issues. Additionally, it looks to better integrate law with multidisciplinary perspectives especially within the science and technology sectors, and to analyse issues within their relevant contexts (e.g. economic, political, social, psychological). The primary envisaged clients are governments, international organisations, and the private sector.

Its primary services (principally legal, with multidisciplinary perspectives where needed) are: the provision of technical advice; capacity development and educational activities; research and analysis; as well as project and event management.

GSDM is currently looking to recruit a self-employed associate who may be matched with appropriate projects as they become available. It is envisaged that such an associate will not be in full-time employment at the time of any project engagement since this is expected to require part or full-time commitment for the project’s duration.

Applications are welcome from a broad spectrum of expertise, including but not limited to: law of armed conflict, international human rights law, international refugee law, international criminal law, international development law, international maritime law, law of the sea, internet/cyber law, global health law, international disaster/disaster response law, construction/planning law; humanitarian assistance, emergency management, insurance law, aviation law, space law. International, regional and domestic law, as well as relevant multidisciplinary, perspectives are welcome.

Applicants must have completed (or be close to successfully completing) doctoral research as a minimum, with proven research and written/oral communication skills. Relevant previous work experience is an asset though not a requirement. Both early career and more experienced colleagues are welcome to apply.

To apply, please send (1) an up-to-date curriculum vitae; (2) a covering letter (two pages maximum) mapping your relevant expertise and previous work experience onto GSDM’s service areas of most interest to you; (3) outline your envisaged availability during the coming 12 months; and (4) send up to three samples of your written work (e.g. book chapters, journal articles, reports).

Following shortlisting, a minimum of two supporting academic and/or professional references will be required, which should also comment on a candidate’s suitability in relation to GSDM’s six core values. Interviews (in person or via skype) are expected to take place during the autumn.

All applications with supporting documents should be emailed by clicking the apply button below.

Currently there are no geographical constraints for applicants since most projects are likely to be undertaken remotely. Contract fees and duration will be determined on a project by project basis.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Katja Samuel, Director, GSDM ([email protected]).

Please see website for more details (www.gsdm.global). The closing date for this recruitment round is 31 October 2017. Early applications are encouraged and reviewed weekly.
