Detail information about job Chair in Mechanical Engineering. Terms and conditions vacancy

Queen Mary University of London is one of the UK's leading research-focused higher education institutions, a member of the elite Russell Group of UK universities and ranked joint 9th in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. The General Engineering submission from the School of Engineering and Materials was ranked 7th in the UK.

Following a successful earlier recruitment phase, QMUL has released a further post in the School of Engineering and Materials Science as part of the wider, on-going investment in research excellence. The post is part of a strategy to expand research and education in Mechanical Engineering and enhance the School as a centre of research of international standing. Applicants with research interests in the areas of Thermofluids, Solid Mechanics, Control and Optimisation are particularly encouraged. Following the appointment of the Chair in Mechanical Engineering, QMUL plans to release further more junior academic positions with the post-holder playing a key role in their appointment.

The post-holder is expected to provide inspirational research leadership in the Mechanical Engineering area and will have a proven track record in research income generation and research achievements of international stature demonstrated through publications. Research should enhance and/or complement existing research strengths within the School’s Research Centre for Simulation and Applied Mechanics. A commitment to leadership in the development of a high quality student education and experience is also essential to support our taught programmes in the Mechanical Engineering area.

The School has excellent computational facilities including access to High Performance Computing, as well as a range of experimental facilities including heat and mass transfer laboratories, mechanical testing facilities and wind tunnels.

The post is a full-time, permanent post based in London.

Professorial salary will be by negotiation within the professorial range.

A generous academic support package will be available.
