The Centre for Research on Ageing is recruiting a Researcher to work on a new project entitled ‘Extending our understanding of informal care provision in mid-life in the UK by linking qualitative and quantitative data from the National Child Development Study’, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council’s Secondary Data Analysis Initiative.
The overarching objective of the proposed research is to improve our understanding of the perspective of mid-life carers who are supporting their parents/parents-in-law, on their caring activity and how it interacts with other areas of life (e.g. social participation, identity). Working with Dr Athina Vlachantoni (PI), Dr Zhixin Frank Feng (Co-I), Prof. Jane Falkingham and Prof. Maria Evandrou, you will be responsible for conducting literature reviews and secondary analysis of qualitative interviews of respondents in the National Child Development Study. In addition, you will contribute to drafting sections of journal papers, and the writing and presentation of conference papers.
The Centre for Research on Ageing (CRA) is an international, multi-disciplinary research centre, examining key issues in ageing over the life course, and informing policy and debate at the local, national, international level. Members of the CRA are currently engaged in a range of national and international research projects funded, for example, by the Economic and Social Research Council, the UK’s Department for International Development and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. You will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a social science discipline, excellent qualitative analysis skills, experience of using NViVO and very good written and oral communication skills.
*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
