Detail information about job Outreach Officer and Researcher. Terms and conditions vacancy

Founded in 1998, the Woolf Institute's mission is to further understanding between Jews, Christians, and Muslims in order to serve the greater public good. The Institute wishes to appoint a Researcher and Outreach officer in a forthcoming project concerned with the musical heritage of Jewish and Muslim communities from Syria and Iraq.

We are looking for a person who will combine two different elements of the Institute’s work in the job. First, the candidate will carry out research in diasporic Muslim communities in the UK and Europe, to gather data about perceptions and attitudes to traditional Arabic music. Secondly, the candidate will, together with the other researchers on the project, develop, implement and deliver outreach courses to the public which disseminate the research from the project, and aim at facilitating interfaith dialogue through the medium of music.

The ideal candidate will be flexible and dynamic, and committed to the recognition of diversity, particularly in relation to faith, and to constructive relations between individuals and groups of different backgrounds and beliefs. Enthusiasm for music and knowledge of Arabic will be essential. Experience in fieldwork would be an advantage.

The Outreach Officer and Researcher will work with the Director of Research and other Woolf Institute staff on the project. The person should also feel comfortable working within a fast-paced work environment, in an Institute with a strong academic focus, and as part of a small staff. Finally, the successful candidate will need to be able to commute easily to the Cambridge area.

This is a 3-year contract.
