Detail information about job Coordinator – Multilingual Performance in Schools. Terms and conditions vacancy

Grade 7: £31,076 - £38,183 p.a. (pro rata for part-time)

This exciting new role offers you the opportunity to work with schools, community groups and arts organisations, facilitating the creation and presentation of multilingual performances, such as plays, song concerts, films, readings of creative writing and news broadcasts.

You will go into schools and work independently with teachers and pupils, supporting projects that connect performance with languages. The projects may involve languages being taught formally at the school as part of the curriculum, and/or community-based languages represented in the school. In addition, you will establish and nurture relationships with relevant local organisations such as theatres, and arts and community language groups, and encourage their participation.

The aim of the Multilingual Performance in Schools project is to build confidence on the one hand among teachers for conducting creative work with drama and performance to enhance language teaching, and on the other to build confidence among students in learning and using languages. In addition, it will showcase the multilingual nature of schools, and demonstrate how this could interact with modern languages as taught in the classroom. You will lead the project and produce a final written report evaluating its success. The project is part of the AHRC-funded Creative Multilingualism programme.

You will have a qualification in a performance art such as drama, film-making, or other relevant field, or equivalent work experience, along with experience of working with teachers and/or youth and community groups, and/or school students. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is a demonstrable ability to think creatively and solve problems. You will also have excellent project management and organisational skills. Ideally, you will have knowledge of a second language, and be familiar with relevant areas of the GCSE and A level curriculum.

This fixed-term post is available on a full or part-time (minimum 0.6 FTE) basis, starting on 1 October 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter. The length of the post depends on the FTE.  At 1 FTE the duration would be 18 months. The maximum length is until 30 June 2020. You will be based in the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages, Oxford. However, the programme is intended to have wide reach within England and Wales and you will be expected to travel in the course of your work. This will include occasional overnight stays. There will also be occasional evening and weekend work. A full driving licence and access to a car for business use is desirable.

Applications should be made online, and you will be required to upload a CV, a supporting statement, and the names and addresses of two referees as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 6 September 2017.
