Overview Of Role
An Insectary manager is required to look after our Insectary facility at Rothamsted Research. This is a full-time role, managing the high containment (quarantined) facility and looking after a range of insects used for research. A good working knowledge of insects is required , degree level or equivalent, as well as an understanding of the conditions required to rear the insects and the hands-on ability to ensure this is provided. The work will involve the day to day operational running of the facility, advising users of the facility as to the best conditions to rear insects, ensuring biosecurity, providing advice on handling the insects, and ensuring the facilities are kept fully operational, clean and tidy.
Applicants should ideally have a degree in an entomological or related scientific discipline and experience in rearing insects. We are seeking candidates with excellent communication, organisational and team working skills, a positive outlook and can do attitude. Attention to detail, together with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines is also essential. Good generic skills are also a key requirement for this role. The position is a full time 3 year fixed-term contract in the first instance with a starting salary of £ 24,225 - £32,315 per annum, commensurate with experience.
