About us

Jisc is helping to ensure the UK remains at the forefront of innovation within UK education and research – by mobilising the very best people and technologies in the application of digital thinking, digital content and connectivity.

It’s our vision to enable the UK to become the most digitally advanced education and research nation in the world. It’s a bold statement, but one that we’re determined to fulfil.

About the role

In this role, your main purpose will be to ensure Jisc negotiates the best possible agreements for digital content and software on behalf of UK further education providers and the skills sector.  You will work collaboratively with staff across the digital resources directorate to ensure the team provides the highest quality service to providers.

Based on a culture of innovation and continuous improvement you will seek to deliver the best agreements, in a timely and professional manner, where the highest possible standards of accuracy, communication and customer service are core.

About you

To be successful, you will need to have the ability to negotiate complex and multi-faceted agreements for a variety of different types of digital content, from e-books, learning resources, multimedia content and e-journals.  You’ll be equally comfortable analysing figures as understanding the sectors within which we work including changing technology and policy environments.  As such, you must be able to build long-term relationships with content providers, intermediaries and providers and have and maintain a knowledge of vocational and scholarly publishing, and of the UK funding and policy environment.

You will need:

  • Demonstrable experience in the licensing and provision of digital content for further and/or higher education organisations, research offices and skills based organisations.
  • Understanding and experience of education and/or electronic publishing or related industries
  • Experience of content acquisition in particular negotiation and use of licences
  • Significant service delivery/project management experience, including experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the further and/or higher education, skills and research council sectors, their use of digital content and the issues related to the licensing, negotiation and provision of digital content and other related services
  • Knowledge of other agencies, initiatives and programmes engaged with the further and/or higher education, skills and research council sectors

In addition to this, you will need to demonstrate that you are great at building relationships and have an enthusiastic, outgoing, energetic approach. You’ll need to be highly motivated, able to work without close supervision and able to contribute as a team member and inspire and motivate others
