Detail information about job Crop Postharvest Scientist. Terms and conditions vacancy

Reducing crop postharvest losses is critical for ensuring future global food and nutrition security, especially as growing conditions become more variable. An opportunity has arisen for a scientist from an agricultural discipline with the experience and vision to work within a small multi-disciplinary team at the Natural Resources Institute (NRI) to deliver research and consultancy services in the area of crop postharvest science.

The Natural Resources Institute (NRI) (www.nri.org) is an internationally renowned centre of the University of Greenwich that undertakes research, consultancy and training to support sustainable development, food security, economic growth and poverty reduction in developing countries.  This post will support on-going collaborative programmes in a diverse range of countries and locations, working in partnership with a range of national and international organisations to improve food availability and food quality through better crop postharvest management of food supply chains.  The post requires someone who understands the role postharvest loss reduction can play in food security and economic growth, and who is willing to develop their postharvest skills and apply them to practical developmental problems for a range of crops (durable and perishable) through research, consultancy and teaching.

The successful candidate will join the Food and Markets Department, which is a well-established group working on many aspects of postharvest science (www.postharvest.nri.org), and is particularly concerned with reducing postharvest losses and tackling global food waste.  You will have experience with postharvest development projects, ideally a PhD in a relevant subject (or a desire to register for a PhD), evidence of publications and be prepared to undertake frequent short-term overseas travel.
