Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Fellow (0.8 FTE). Terms and conditions vacancy

We are looking to appoint a highly motivated individual, with a strong background in neuroscience and experience of working with children, to work on an exciting new project funded by The Waterloo Foundation at the University of Surrey. The project, Brain Function and Behaviour in Developmental Coordination Disorder: Insights into Co-occurring Difficulties, investigates the neural basis of a number of motor and cognitive difficulties seen in developmental coordination disorder (DCD).

The post is based in the School of Psychology, University of Surrey, working with the Principal Investigator, Dr Hayley Leonard, and the Co-Investigator, Professor Bertram Opitz. Further information about their research can be found at

http://surrey.ac.uk/psychology/people/dr_hayley_leonard/, and http://surrey.ac.uk/psychology/people/bertram_opitz/.

The post holder will be responsible for programming and piloting tasks, recruiting participants through schools and other means, testing children, analysing data, and preparing research reports and scientific papers. We expect the candidate to be proactive and self-motivated, and have an enthusiastic and engaging manner with children of primary-school age. The post holder will be an active member of the Motor Development and Impact (MoDI) lab, led by Dr Leonard, and will be part of both the DevELOP and the Brain and Behaviour research groups within the School of Psychology.

The applicant will hold a PhD in Psychology or a closely-related discipline (those close to completion may apply, but applicants must have submitted the thesis before the beginning of the appointment in November 2017). The applicant must have experience in collecting and analysing event-related potential (ERP) data, preferably with children, although other experience of working with children will be taken into account. The applicant must be capable of providing academic judgement, and offering original and creative thoughts, and should have an excellent understanding of typical and/or atypical development. For applicants who do not have Enhanced DBS clearance, they must be eligible to obtain this through the University before testing begins. The applicant should be able to take a flexible approach in dealing with challenges in recruitment and testing.

The post is available for 12 months at 0.8 FTE. The post is available from 1 November 2017.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Hayley Leonard ([email protected]). Further information about the University and the School can be found at http://www.surrey.ac.uk/school-psychology/.

Interviews to be held Week Commencing 25th September 2017
