Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Senior Lecturer in colorectal Surgery within the Centre for Neuroscience and Trauma in the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. The Blizard Institute is the largest institute of Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.
The post sits within the Centre for Neuroscience and Trauma, and the appointment is funded equally by Barts Health NHS Trust and the School of Medicine and Dentistry. The postholder will have an honorary consultant contract with Barts and the London Trust, and will undertake 5 academic programmed activities on behalf of the School, and 5 clinical programmed activities on behalf of the Trust. The main purposes of the role are to: undertake high level research into colorectal (some aspects of general surgery if relevant), complementary to the overall research strategy of the Centre, Institute and School, and of the Trust Acute & Family Directorate; contribute to the organization, delivery and assessment of teaching of undergraduate and graduate students in the School; and undertake such administrative, managerial and other duties as are reasonably to be expected of a senior member of clinical academic staff, as agreed with the Centre Lead and Institute Director.
Essential requirements include: MBBS/MBChB or equivalent; FRCS or equivalent; CCST (or be within 6 months of obtaining CCST) in general or vascular surgery or equivalent experience and formal training; and being on the GMC Specialist Register in general surgery or vascular surgery. Also required are: Clinical experience in colorectal surgery appropriate for stage and demonstrable experience in research in surgery or related disciplines, with an appropriate peer reviewed publication record. Experience in management and service development; experience in writing research grants, obtaining funding and application of research to clinical and basic science problems; and experience of working in a major medical Centre.
The post is full time and indefinite. Starting salary will be on Consultant Salary scale between £76,761 – £103,493, depending on experience and seniority. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
