MiNA Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Technician/Laboratory Manager to join its research team developing novel therapeutics in the field of RNA activation. The candidate will join a small multidisciplinary team sitting at the core of MiNA’s drug development effort which includes supporting its first clinical candidate MTL-CEBPA. The post will be based mainly at the Translation and Innovation Hub, White City. 

The post holder will be responsible for supporting in vitro work and tissue / blood sample analysis from pre-clinical and clinical studies in order to progress the objectives of the company’s drug development programme. The main responsibilities will include management of laboratory facilities, maintenance of core equipment, assisting with purchase of general consumables and dealing with general duties whilst ensuring compliance with Health & Safety regulations within the company.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Carry out a range of tasks to time and quality requirements.
  • Work within established routines or procedures with minimal direct supervision
  • Prepare and carry out straightforward tests/experiments using standard lab techniques
  • Record test results and present finding accurately.
  • Dispatch samples/consumables/kits to a wide range of locations. Maintain tracking and recovery and indexing of test samples.
  • Maintain and generate database of stocks of cryopreserved cell lines, tissues and blood samples
  • Monitoring and manage levels of stocks/stores or basic equipment and supplies maintain equipment, consumables and work areas.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of SOPs
  • Maintain and improve operational efficiency.
  • Attend research meetings and contribute to the presentation of results to the group.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in biological sciences or equivalent and a post-graduate degree in biomedical science preferred but not essential.
  • At least 5 years academic or industry research experience in life science helping to run a laboratory

 Skills and Experience required:

  • Sterile mammalian tissue culture experience is essential
  • Some knowledge of molecular and cell biology techniques including quantitative PCR, Western blot and ELISA, RNA/DNA/protein extraction from cells and tissues
  • Previous experience in human and rodent tissue collection and analysis
  • Excellent verbal communication
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Proven ability to apply attention to detail
  • Proven interpersonal skills
  • Evidence for effective written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to problem-solve and overcome obstacles and provide solutions
  • Proven ability to use own initiative, working both independently and as part of a team
  • Proven ability to prioritise, plan ahead and mange high volume of work to meet deadlines, both prescribed and self-imposed and to ensure that the laboratory runs in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to changing timetables or work patterns as dictated by changing circumstances
  • Regard for confidentiality and security at all times
  • Willingness to undertake any necessary training for the role
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and the ability to apply this knowledge in the workplace.
  • Excellent database management skills including use of Excel and other project management tools.
