Summary:
The University of Sheffield AMRC builds on the success of the original Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing, creating a cluster of industry-focused manufacturing R&D centres and supporting facilities. The AMRC with Boeing, established in 2001, has grown to become a world-leading centre of advanced machining and materials research for aerospace and other high-value sectors. It has around 70 industrial members, from global giants such as Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, to local small businesses. Cluster members include the AMRC with Boeing, Nuclear AMRC, the AMRC Design Prototyping and Testing, Training and Knowledge Transfer Centres; Castings Technology International (CTI); the National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC); Medical AMRC and Factory 2050. The AMRC with Boeing and Nuclear AMRC are part of the UK High Value Manufacturing Catapult. The AMRC with Boeing specialises in advanced machining, materials and manufacturing research. It has more than 80 industrial partners, including global giants such as Boeing, Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Airbus as well as small businesses, and is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
The Operations Manager has overall responsibility to ensure the Machining Group is providing a safe and efficient service that meets the expectations and needs of customers, has equipment capability and availability to meet project requirements, and sets operational measures and targets to drive the group forward. The Operations Manager reports to the Head of the Machining Group and directly line manages the Factory of the Future Workshop Manager and the KTC Training Manager.
The successful candidate will have a good honours degree (or equivalent experience) as well as experience working as a manager in a manufacturing engineering organisation. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate effective communication skills; both written and verbal, report writing skills, experience of delivering presentations and the ability to communicate with staff at all levels within the organisation. Excellent customer service skills are required, with experience of responding efficiently and effectively to phone and email enquiries.
