Detail information about job Asbestos and Compliance Manager. Terms and conditions vacancy

Estates Services is responsible for managing the University of Oxford’s estate within Oxfordshire: 235 buildings used for teaching, research and administration and another 140 commercially managed properties including offices and land.

In response to changes in asbestos management best practice, the Conservation and Buildings team, within Estates Services, are seeking two new team members to provide a dedicated resource responsible for asbestos management and wider compliance monitoring.

Working with the University Safety Office and a range of contractors, customers and colleagues, both roles will initially focus on reviewing existing asbestos management procedures and policies, leading to the development and implementation of a revised University Asbestos Management Protocol.

As Asbestos and Compliance Manager, you will lead in shaping compliance, policy and procedure on asbestos and safety critical systems at the University. Through your previous experience, you will be competent and confident in providing specialist advice in this area –co-ordinating and monitoring all asbestos related survey work; formally and informally assessing, advising and reporting on issues; and making best use of time and resources when managing the in-house and external team workload.

You will be a central point of contact for all safety critical systems, providing advice to University departments. Excellent and effective inter-personal skills are essential as you work with a broad range of customers and colleagues, guiding and advising on the required procedures in a timely and efficient manner.

You will hold the suitable relevant qualifications, as detailed in the Selection criteria, have a clear understanding of the key elements of asbestos management, specifically in a large organisation, and possess a strong ability to contribute to, and lead change at a management level.

This post is part of a pilot scheme testing a new Supporting Evidence form in place of the more usual ‘supporting statement’. Please ensure that you carefully read the How to Apply section provided in the Job Description, which you can download below along with the required Supporting Evidence form.

The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Thursday 21 September 2017.

Please note that the University of Oxford's retirement policy is changing. With effect from October 1 2017, all employees at Grade 8 and above will have a retirement age of 68, and all employees at Grades 6 and 7 will no longer have a set retirement age.
