Detail information about job Research Associate/Fellow in Computational Biological Science (Fixed-term). Terms and conditions vacancy

Location: University Park

Salary: £26,052 to £31,076 per annum, depending on skills and experience (minimum £29,301 with relevant PhD)

An opportunity has arisen for a researcher with experience in the computational modelling of DNA and/or protein-DNA interactions to join the EU-funded project Multi-Scale Complex Genomics.

This project is developing a virtual research environment (VRE) that integrates structural and functional data regarding the three-dimensional organisation of chromatin in the nucleus – data ranging from atomic-resolution structures of DNA-protein complexes, through mesoscale models of chromosome domains, to whole-nucleus images from FISH experiments.

The project involves the expertise of groups in genomics, bioinformatics, structural biology and computational bioscience in UK, Spain, and France. Here at Nottingham, under the supervision of Dr Charlie Laughton, the post holder will lead the integration of data analysis tools in circulation in the community into the common platform (the VRE), and also undertake proof-of-principle computational investigations on the relationship between DNA sequence, structure and protein recognition to validate and optimise the performance of the VRE.

Applicants must have a good first degree in a Physical or Computational Science, a proven research track record and a relevant PhD submitted or awarded in an area related to Bioinformatics or Structural Biology. Excellent computational skills including first-hand experience in software development are required.

Applicants must have excellent communication skills, which are evident from written reports and publications, as well as presentations and discussions. In addition, applicants need to be an effective team member with a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research, in particular between computational and biological sciences. Previous experience in the study of DNA and/or chromatin structure is highly desirable.

This full-time post is available with immediate effect with a fixed end date of the 31 October 2018.
