Detail information about job Athena SWAN Project Manager. Terms and conditions vacancy

Do you have a passion for Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity, including the equality of women? Have you successfully managed an organisation-wide strategic project?

If you also possess excellent data analytical skills and enjoy project management then we may have the role for you.

The primary purpose of this role will be to manage the implementation, continued development and embedding of the Athena SWAN Charter and its principles across the University. The immediate priority will be to support the University submission and then to support schools in achieving their awards in line with the overall University Plan, whilst also ensuring sufficient progress is made on the University-level action plan in order to support a Silver submission by 2020.

As Athena SWAN Project Manager you will:

  • establish and run Kent’s Athena SWAN activities as a University-wide strategic project to meet the goals set in the University Plan 2015-2020;
  • ensure the University-level Athena SWAN applications and associated action plans are agreed with all relevant parties, submitted on time, to the required quality standard and are consistent with the overall University strategic plan and objectives.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • detailed knowledge of EDI practices, legislation, case law etc.;
  • experience of successfully leading the achievement of a recognised accreditation, such as Investors in People;
  • excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbally and in writing;
  • experience of managing a project with multiple and inter-related sub projects.

The University has joined and is committed to the principles of the Athena SWAN charter. The charter, which was launched in June 2005, was first implemented to advance the representation of women in science, technology, engineering, medicine and mathematics (STEMM). In 2015, the charter was expanded to also include arts, humanities, social science, business and law (AHSSBL) disciplines as well as professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students. The charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.

The University has decided to devote more resources to the AS process both at University and Schools levels and we have recently appointed more staff into the Athena SWAN Project Team. This post is one of these investments.
