Detail information about job Research Fellow in Stroke and Brain Repair. Terms and conditions vacancy
We are looking to recruit a postdoctoral research fellow on a MRC Confidence-in-Concept funded project, led by Dr Barry McColl and Prof. David Hume, to investigate the efficacy and mechanisms of a novel treatment that manipulates myeloid cells to enhance brain repair and recovery after stroke.
Augmenting pro-regenerative processes is a potential approach to improve recovery after stroke and enable many more patients to be treated. Increasing evidence suggests myeloid cells such as microglia and macrophages can support repair process in the injured brain. This project will follow on from our recent work that has identified a novel reagent capable of modifying the phenotype of CNS myeloid cells towards pro-regenerative phenotypes. The successful candidate will use an experimental model of stroke and a range of analytical techniques (including histopathology, behavioural analysis, flow cytometry) to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. This proof-of-concept data will be used to leverage follow-on translational and industry funding.
The PDRF will work within the McColl neuroimmune biology lab alongside other postdoctoral researchers and students working on complementary projects. The successful candidate is expected to work well independently to firm timelines. Applicants should have a PhD/PhD near completion (or equivalent experience) in a relevant biomedical science. Skills in using mouse middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) models and related analytical methods are necessary and a UK Home Office personal licence is highly desirable.
Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr Barry McColl ([email protected]).
