Our client based in Auckland New Zealand, have developed novel and patented technology for cost effective and user friendly immunodiagnostic testing of a range of diseases. With an advanced multiplexed test platform giving rapid result turnaround, the company is in advanced commercialisation stage of existing platforms, whilst concomitantly expanding into other disease diagnostic panels, based on their proprietary technology.

Currently the manufacturing & assembly of their immunodiagnostic kits is done in their central Auckland facility and the product is shipped for selling in international market. Plans are in place to acquire a larger facility in the following months to accommodate the increase in production. This ambitious expansion and commercialisation phase, requires a very astute Manufacturing Manager, with skills honed and matured in immunodiagnostic manufacturing sector to manage and streamline the production in a very busy and ‘hands on’ role. You could also be from commercial laboratory testing environment where you have a solid understanding and experience in performing and troubleshooting ELISA based Imunoassays.

Reporting to the CEO, you will manage the manufacturing to ensure that personnel, materials and equipment meet the overall production schedules and business objectives. You will drive the change for system improvements and ensure goals and objectives are met while complying with company policies/procedures and all regulatory licensing requirements.

  Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Plan, organise and manage the production to meet company’s current and future production requirements.
  • Provide leadership for daily production and problem solving which maximises results.
  • Establish annual budget for operating unit and complete monthly forecasting to achieve budget requirements. Contribute to accurate product costing.
  • Drive manufacturing strategy while leading cost and efficiency improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure implementation of GMP and good quality practices in manufacturing and assure compliance to regulatory standards (GMP, OSH, ISO 13485). Manage records and documentation and participation in the auditory processes.
  • Carrying out calibration and maintenance of equipment used in production and R & D. Carry out validation of new/acquired manufacturing equipment.
  • Develop and implement systems to effectively manage inventory, followed by routine stock takes, reconciliation, etc.
  • Manage the dispatch of diagnostic kits followed by prompt tracking of shipments.
  • Reordering and replenishment of raw materials and consumables.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting as required.
  • Lead, coach, and train employees toward team concept. Foster environment for empowered, high-performance work culture.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, Competencies and Personal Attributes sought are:

  • Tertiary qualification in medical,  biochemistry or a  related discipline.
  • Must have prior in depth knowledge and experience in successfully operating in a highly regulated environment. Expertise in operating budget system, production standards and production control system.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Technical writing skills where you are adept at creating and reviewing SOPs and other associated documentation. Experience in quality system processes, ISO 13485 and validation of new equipment is highly desirable.
  • Team building skills and a desire to develop others through coaching and facilitation.
  • Ability to drive cost reduction while continuously improving performance, as well as the ability to lead employees in making changes.
