- We have a full time permanent role for a Forestry Field Technician
Scion specialises in research, science and technology development for the forestry industry, wood products and wood-derived materials. We lead new technology development for renewables, bioproducts and energy and the establishment of a bio-economy.
We are seeking a self-motivated and driven individual with an interest in forestry, ecology, biology and systems, to play a vital role in our Forest Systems team and assist with project work and the delivery of our forest science research. You will assist with field trial implementation, set-up, monitoring and maintenance. The role requires an understanding of research objectives, and ensuring accurate data measurement and collection is carried out in compliance with Scion's Health and Safety Policy.
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience in the management of field trials, a general forest science/ecology background is preferred.
- An ability to work independently and pro-actively with a number of scientists and technical staff to ensure all work is carried out meticulously and in a timely fashion.
- A willingness to work with pesticides and undertake necessary training to become a certified chemical handler.
- An ability to operate in sometimes physically demanding terrain, spraying, pulling weeds, measuring trees, collecting foliage and soil samples, etc.
- Excellent oral communication skills.
