GeoNet is New Zealand's primary source of information about natural hazard events, providing rapid information to media, researchers, emergency management and the public. Underpinning this information are our networks of GPS, seismograph, strong motion accelerometer and tsunami monitoring stations.
We are always looking for ways to build on the information we can collect and provide - either by expanding our networks, or adding new capabilities and technologies to them.
Our current Science Operations Specialist has been seconded to another position so we are recruiting temporary cover.
The role will be responsible for contributing to the planning, testing, and permitting of new stations, and ensuring current stations are fit for purpose, and appropriately permitted.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A qualification in Geology or Geophysics (or equivalent experience in a relevant field)
- Fieldwork experience, especially in deploying geophysical equipment
- Knowledge of monitoring sensors and associated systems
- An understanding of New Zealand's tectonic setting
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- A good level of physical fitness
- A current driver's licence
