About the business and the role

Tauranga Eyecare is Tauranga's longest running independent optometry practice. We have two practices, Tauranga and Omokoroa, and this position involves time in both practices by roster. The main practice is open till 830 on a Thursday night and Saturday mornings until 1pm and these days are included in the roster.

It is envisaged that the position will average 30-34 hours per week split between the two practices. However we require flexibility- the successful candidate to be able to cover other team members if required.

We are a full scope optometry practice with 5 optometrists with speciality clinics in contact lenses and low vision. You will be part of a team of 5 optical assistants.

Being an independent optometry practice we are able to provide the best products both in frame and lens technology to offer personalised visual solutions.

Job tasks and responsibilities

We require a person who has an appreciation and importance of the role as the first point of contact to our optometry practice and that first impressions are critical to the client interaction. A responsive facial expression, clear phone manner, a great listener and readiness to assist are essential.

The role involves making appointments with accuracy, pre-testing clients, ancillary tests,minor frame repairs and helping clients selecting a new pair of spectacle frames.

Involvement in the contact lens clinics-instruction on handling, care and general advice.

We require flexibility with regard to working rosters to be part of a team environment.

The position offers an element of routine but with the variety of each new client interaction.

This position involves making a positive impact in someone's day.

The practice appreciates the work/ life balance of our team. As such this position can also be accommodated on a less than full time basis with a minimum of 30-34 hours per week.

 

Skills and experience

This position involves having exceptional and proven customer services and communication skills.

Previous experience in optometry would be a definite advantage with experience of Vision practice management software. However full training will be provided to the successful candidate.

Proven retail sales experience is a pre-requisite.

Excellent personal presentation and reliability.

A willingness to learn, flexibility and ability to show initiative.

Accurate data entry skills.

To be able to work within and contribute positively to a team and exhibit flexibility.
