Health Care Assistant – 24 hours per week

Rainbow Place is the children and young people’s service of Hospice Waikato – the only hospice in New Zealand that offers specialist child-focussed palliative care services supporting children/young people aged 0-18 years and their families, living with a life limiting/life threatening condition.  Rainbow Place provides care through a team approach that includes specialist nursing care, counselling, social work, spiritual care and practical support for as long as the child/young person needs it. This includes transition into the adult service of Hospice Waikato if appropriate. The Rainbow Place team works from a purpose-built facility on the Hospice Waikato campus, and is part of the comprehensive specialist palliative care services of Hospice Waikato. Care and support is also provided wherever it is needed, such as the family home, school, hospital and other community facilities. Rainbow Place staff are supported in their work by the large team of specialist palliative care staff at Hospice Waikato, including voluntary staff who enhance the service and facilities in a variety of ways.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant to join our Rainbow Place and In-Patient Unit (IPU) team on a permanent part time basis. The children we support have a high level of complex health needs which require 24/7 one to one care. You will have the opportunity to work with amazing children and their family/whanau on their journeys. You will need to have lots of energy and compassion and most importantly be ready to have lots of fun!

To be the right fit for this role and our organisation you would bring:

Essential:

  • Experience working with children and young people
  • Current First Aid Certificate

If this sounds like the role and an organisation you want to be a part of then please send your cover letter and CV to [email protected]. We will be interviewing immediately.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake pre-employment health screening (including drug testing) and complete a Ministry of Justice criminal records check, the results of which must be to Hospice Waikato’s satisfaction.

Applicants must have NZ residency or a valid work visa.
