The Strategy, Performance and Policy team in the JDGO supports both the GCSB and NZSIS and helps ensure that the leadership of these agencies are well-placed to make informed and coordinated decisions.  The team also takes responsibility for annual planning, organisational performance and non-financial reporting, as well as key accountability documentation including annual reports, strategic intentions and annual business plans.

We have an Advisor JDGO opportunity which will suit a highly motivated person who wants to develop and broaden their skills in a dynamic environment.  In this role you will join the team providing support and advice to the Directors-General as well as services for the Minister.   Ideally you will have knowledge of – or a keen interest to learn about – the Official Information Act and Privacy Act.  You will also have good writing skills and be able to contribute towards high quality briefings for the Minister.  In turn, your work will directly contribute to the national security of New Zealand.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong writing skills and the ability to identify risks and draw conclusions from a wide range of material
  • Experience working within central government, although a suitable graduate would be considered
  • Knowledge of the machinery of government, including structures and processes surrounding public administration and public policy and the Official Information Act / Privacy Act
  • Great relationship and organisational skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively across the agencies to deliver to deadlines and implement solutions to complex and ambiguous problems
  • A desire to strengthen their range of skills while learning alongside a senior team
  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent training and experience.

To be eligible for employment within the NZIC you must have been a NZ citizen for at least 10 years.  Alternatively you must have been a citizen of UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years and hold NZ Permanent Residence / a current NZ Residency Class Visa.

You must be able to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance.  Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 15 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken.  Where requisite checks are unable to be made, the candidate application may not be able to be progressed.
