Located at East Sale RAAF Base, the AIR 5428 Pilot Training System will deliver performance-based options to train the next generation of Australian pilots over the next 25 years. Lockheed Martin leads the delivery of an integrated solution tailored for all future pilots for the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Army.

The AIR 5428 Pilot Training Program is ramping up and we are now looking for experienced Ground Training Instructors to join the team. These positions have the responsibility for the provision of Aviation Ground School Instruction to Australian Defence Force students during Basic Flight Training Phase activities, and will be conducted via utilisation of the courseware provided within the AIR 5428 Learning Management System.

You will be responsible for:
  • Providing subject matter expert (SME) advice on ground school training activities to projects / programs and across the business as required
  • Independently undertaking a wide range of standard and advanced ground school training activities as required
  • Supporting the design of new programs, providing ground school instruction on a wide range of aircraft subjects including: aircraft systems, operation procedures, emergency procedures, troubleshooting, navigation, aerodynamic radio operation, civil air regulations, and company policies and procedures using responder systems where practical
  • Administering and scoring tests, maintaining class records and determining and reporting on student proficiency
  • Supporting the development of new methods, techniques, and training aids for increased efficiency
  • Contributing to the evaluation of training materials and procedures and recommend revisions as required
  • Evaluating student performance, offering student counselling and providing special instruction to students as required

To be successful in this role, you will need to bring with you:
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (Aviation Training and/or Education) and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the Defence industry)
  • Significant classroom training experience in an aviation training environment
  • Substantial Ground School training experience working with aircrew related subjects on the full range of pilot training courseware, including Student Study Guides, Instructor Training Guides and Lesson Plans (air and ground)
  • Expert understanding of, and experience in applying principles, concepts, practices and standards of training and development
  • Experience in the presentation of training product sourced from a Learning Management System
  • Substantial experience in the delivery of blended learning techniques inclusive of computer aided & non-computer aided instructional techniques
  • Substantial experience in face-to-face facilitated learning techniques
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with the interpretation and implementation of curriculum based training activities to Learning Objective (LO) and Assessment Criteria (AC) level
  • Intermediate skills and experience in the use of MS Office and other relevant software packages and applications
