  • Challenging and changing policy environment
  • Unique policy challenges
  • Wellington location with regular travel within NZ

Successive generations of skilled farmers have shaped the New Zealand dairy industry into the world leader that it is today.  Talented people will continue to underpin dairy farming’s success into the future.  They will be attracted to do so by the opportunity to work in world class farm work environments.

We are looking for a talented and passionate policy manager to build enduring partnerships and contribute to policy solutions that enable dairy farming to work for all New Zealanders.  You’ll gain the trust and respect of those you work closely with and be articulate in saying what needs to be said at the right time in the right manner. You’ll be quick to grasp new challenges and confident in working with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement policy solutions.

It’s all about delivering a policy environment that grows opportunities – opportunities for talented people to grow dairy careers, opportunities for dairy to grow its success through talented people, opportunities for all New Zealanders flowing from dairy’s enhanced contribution to national prosperity.   That’s where you come in. As an important member of the DairyNZ Policy and Advocacy function, this role will be instrumental in influencing and driving change for the dairy industry’s people and its business environment, including immigration and health and safety.

We anticipate an understanding of the primary sector coupled with knowledge of tertiary education sector policy frameworks to be advantageous for this role.  If you have your finger on the pulse of the changing work environment, and the ability to draw those changes into strategic plans and actions, this may be just the opportunity you are seeking.

The primary advantage of this role is to combine your strategic agility with existing network and relationship management skills for the benefit our dairy industry. You’ll be comfortable working to a variety of audiences, and quickly adapt your approach and delivery accordingly.

You’ll have an ability to drive strategy from the analysis stage, to negotiating delivery and implementing outcomes with key partners.  As a source of relevant, accurate facts, you’ll provide that information and technical input about the dairy industry and dairy farming to those involved in making policy in New Zealand.

DairyNZ’s Policy team is based in Wellington although the role will involve travel within New Zealand.
