Our Department

The Contracting Department at the University of Otago are proud to support New Zealand's first university by providing the best facilities, services and physical environment in which staff, students and the general public can learn, teach, live and play.

The Role

You will assist in maintaining the grounds and undertaking any alteration work as directed. Key tasks in maintenance of the grounds include but are not limited to, litter removal, lawn care, weed spraying, vandalism repair and general garden maintenance and landscaping.

At Property Services you will work within a busy team, and with a wide range of people across the University. You will help us to achieve our Property Services vision which is to create and maintain a built environment that encourages and inspires aspirations of excellence for everyone who experiences the University of Otago.

Your Skills and Experience

  • At least five years' practical experience in horticulture, gardening and/or landscaping.
  • General knowledge of all materials, equipment and machinery associated with grounds maintenance and alteration work.
  • Ability to carry out basic equipment maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Relevant horticultural qualifications.
  • Growsafe / approved handler, heavy traffic licence, tractor safety (would be advantageous).
  • Strong work ethic, self- motivated and conscientious.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of heavy lifting.
