  • Permanent role located in Wellington, Hamilton, Dunedin or Christchurch

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Conservation (DOC) Team and contribute to the way we manage conservation lands and water on behalf of the New Zealand public.

 

The Statutory Land Management Team in DOC manages the statutory processes associated with the management and legal status of public conservation land. These processes are established by the various Acts administered by DOC, including the Conservation, Reserves and National Parks Acts.

 

The work of the team includes:

  • Management of change to the status and classification of land
  • Dealing with statutory consents in relation to land, including consents under the Public Works Act
  • Provision of specialist advice regarding proposed changes to public conservation land, both managed by DOC and other administering bodies
  • Implementing Treaty settlement where public conservation land is affected

 

The work of the role includes:

  • Playing a national leadership role within DOC on its approach to statutory land management
  • Providing functional advice on legislation, policy, and processes
  • Undertaking a programme of business improvement
  • Mentoring and building the capability of others
  • Maintaining relationships at the national level

 

This role is ideally suited to someone who has at least five years' experience in statutory land management, with an excellent understanding of land-related legislation.

 

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a proven ability to lead and influence, with excellent communication, negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Be an experienced statutory land management practitioner
  • Be a self-starter and enjoy a busy working environment
  • Be responsible for project and financial management
  • Have a customer focused approach
  • Contribute positively to a high performing, engaged team
