  • Are you a skilled professional communications practitioner

A skilled professional communications practitioner is required to manage the State Services Commission's public content across a range of channels, support teams by developing and delivering communications material and planning and provide expert support and advice as required. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Engagement, this senior-level position requires a strategic approach to coordinating content across platforms to ensure maximum effectiveness with a range of audiences. It also requires a strategic approach to creating communications material that will help achieve SSC goals.

This organised, motivated person will have a clear focus on promoting the presence and positive perception of both the SSC and the public service among New Zealanders. Every member of the communications team has to get stuck in and do what's needed to get the job done, so humility and a great attitude will go a long way.

Ultimately, a strategic genius is needed here to forward plan, coordinate and drive effective messages and campaigns throughout the year, as well as support the organisation's business units to lead the public service well.

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in communications and engagement planning and hands on implementation.
  • A strong, strategic communications background
  • Effective stakeholder management skills and superb interpersonal skills
  • A strong understanding of how to connect with audiences
  • Proven ability to write effectively for internal and external audiences.
  • Clear understanding of the New Zealand Public Service environment.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to meet the criteria required to hold a NZ Government security clearance.
