This locally owned, people first company is a leader in New Zealand’s flooring industry. They are market place innovators, and were founded upon a wealth of industry knowledge, a customer first focus and a belief that co-operative organizations are more effective then corporations. Due to their successes there have a rare opportunity to join their Head Office team as a Quantity Surveyor.
On their behalf we are looking for an Estimator / QS that has the X factor, who has excellent people skills and has a proven eye for detail. Your role is integral in the sales team winning tenders, you will use your initiative, strong technical and numerical skills in this all-encompassing QS role.
Reporting to the General Manager, your duties will include:
- Evaluate tenders, analyze drawing, specifications and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.
- Monitor and keep track of project progress and are responsible for the measurement and valuation of variations in the work during the contract, for agreement of interim payments and the final account.
- Acts as a resource for project management by providing cost information and developing cost estimates for changes in the work
- WIP Reporting & analytics
- Prepare all Health and Safety documentation to ensure that the company’s health and safety objectives are achieved across all works
About you:
- Demonstrable experience in tendering for new work, ideally in NZ market
- Ability to navigate complex quotes and tender documentation.
- Experience estimating the cost of retained work packages from first principles
- Proven technical experience with both new and remedial works.
- You can build and maintain a base of subcontractors, suppliers and relevant quotations.
- Prepare schedule of quantities, population of costings sheets & variations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge in all aspects of commercial compliance including strong knowledge of Health and Safety
- You demonstrate a sense of urgency, are results oriented and able to deliver projects on time with accuracy.
- A relevant tertiary education and/or trades background is a prerequisite
- Previous Quantity Surveying/ Estimating experience, preferably from within the flooring industry is desirable.
