Working for a family owned company based in East Tamaki with a strong focus on empowering their staff through upskilling and professional development.  This company has ambitions to become the market leader in their industry through a customer centric approach and are well on their way to achieving this.  A manufacturer and distributor of steel products for the New Zealand and Pacific construction, engineering & manufacturing markets, our client prides themselves on producing & distributing high quality and locally made products.  An exciting opportunity has arisen to become an integral part of this team as a customer service consultant.  

About the role

Working in a close-knit team of like-minded professionals.  This is a busy and varied position where your primary responsibilities will be to provide exceptional customer service through developing long term relationships with existing clients (both internal and external), suppliers and new business prospects over the telephone, in person and via email.  In addition, you will be processing orders, checking stock requirements, resolving technical issues and ensuring the appropriate invoicing and paperwork is completed.  We are looking for someone with high levels of energy and enthusiasm who will proactively identify and maximize sales opportunities, be confident providing value initiatives and someone who is not afraid to use their ingenuity and make a call on the spot!

Skills and experience

In order to be successful in this position you will need:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build strong internal and external relationships
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to multi task in a fast paced and busy environment
  • To be self-motivated and self-driven with high levels of energy and enthusiasm
  • A proactive attitude with strong levels of initiative to trouble shoot and resolve problems that arise on the spot
  • Confidence to grow the existing data base of customers – while this is not a sales role per se, it would be beneficial to be able to ask those tough questions that so many people shy away from
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office and ERP systems
  • 4 years' experience in a customer service environment (not call centre)
  • Knowledge of the building & engineering supplies industry or a technical background would be advantageous however is not essential
