The District Manager, Community Corrections is a key role within Corrections Services.

The role is accountable for providing effective leadership and management of teams delivering services to offenders within the Wellington District.

The District Manager works across the department with stakeholders to increase the focus on, and access to, programmes and interventions for offenders which will reduce re-offending, whilst ensuring public safety and compliance with sentences and orders.

Specifically, this role is accountable for:

  • Leading and motivating teams of specialists who manage offenders on community based sentences to ensure compliance with sentences and orders,
  • Assessment and management of risk to ensure appropriate interventions are applied that increase public safety,
  • Collaboration across Corrections and within communities to ensure opportunities to reduce offending are maximised,
  • Developing and building the professional capability of community probation staff, and
  • Ensuring quality of performance in accordance with the Integrated Practice Framework and Quality Framework.

To be successful in this position you will need to have strong leadership and management experience in an operational environment. You will possess a good working knowledge of community practice and the role of Corrections in the wider justice sector.

You will be required to exercise sound judgement, particularly in relation to assessing risk and at times will work under pressure.

Proven relationship management skills are essential as the role requires significant community and stakeholder engagement.

Some travel is required for this role and a full driver’s licence is essential.
