The Waikato-Tainui College for Research and Development at Hopuhopu memorialises the Raupatu Settlement between Waikato-Tainui and the Crown and grew from a vision of its founder, the late Sir Robert Te Kotahi Mahuta. The College is a postgraduate research facility that contributes to the advancement of Waikato-Tainui and indigenous communities nationally and internationally through a range of research and scholarly activities.  It is also established to support the tribe with future development requirements and to provide training for future leadership.

As a key member of the senior management team, the Operations Manager is responsible for the delivery of the corporate and business services; including Finance & Investment, Property & Facilities, Event Management, Administration, Audit & Risk, Health & Safety and Policy. Additional responsibilities include, providing expert financial management advice, and to manage all aspects of the College’s financial processes and overseeing the finance team which is led by a Finance Manager. This role will also proactively contribute to the strategic and business planning of the College, and to act as a business advisor to the College Director and Board.

To be successful in this role, you must have previous senior executive experience in an Operations or Business Management role, with strong financial management skills and proven successful strategies for operational efficiencies.  You must also have strong interpersonal and relationship development skills, and previous ability building robust teams that are engaged and productive. Previous experience in working in the tertiary education sector, would be advantageous, as would a comprehensive understanding of the Waikato Tainui treaty settlements and history.   A relevant tertiary qualification and an appreciation of Maori kaupapa and tikanga is essential.

This influential leadership role will play a vital part in raising the operational delivery of the College.  It will suit someone who is systematically astute, competent in building long lasting relationships and is ‘hands on’ as well as involved in strategic decisions.
