Detail information about job News Director - Timaru. Terms and conditions vacancy

Affordable housing, one of New Zealand's best swimming beaches, ski fields, lakes and a national park on your doorstep … do we have your attention?

If you are looking to further your career and the opportunity to do so in a region nestled between the mountains and the sea sounds appealing then read on.

We are looking for one of New Zealand's sharpest news leaders to help drive the news agenda for New Zealand's biggest news site Stuff, The Timaru Herald and Neighbourly.

As a News Director working closely with our team in Timaru, you'll help ensure our audiences find important, compelling journalism and a captivating mix of stories across our print and digital titles, whether they choose to read them in The Timaru Herald, the best-selling Sunday Star-Times or on Stuff, NZ's most popular news site.

Driving an audience-first newsroom approach you'll be responsible for finding, commissioning and publishing high-quality journalism, relevant to all our audiences, focusing on ensuring continued growth throughout New Zealand. You'll display a high level of competence and involvement in social media and understand how best to use it to drive community and audience engagement. You will be excited and motivated by the challenge of breaking New Zealand's biggest and best stories, and telling them in the most innovative and engaging ways with words, pictures, video and more.

Do you like the idea of helping Kiwis connect and thrive in their communities? That's what we do. With a longstanding history of award-winning journalism, every month we reach an engaged audience of more than 3 million Kiwis across digital, newspapers, magazines and events. You may be familiar with some of our brands including stuff.co.nz, Neighbourly, and leading mastheads such as The Dominion Post and Sunday Star-Times.

You'll know how to judge the best platform or format for any story - whether that's data analysis, a video explainer, Facebook Live, an opinion column, a long-form interactive, an inverted pyramid news story, or many other formats.

You'll combine a healthy respect for audience insights and traffic metrics with an unrelenting desire to be both first and best. You'll enjoy the challenge of continuing to grow Stuff's audience, retaining our position as NZ's most popular news and entertainment site, and pushing the boundaries of storytelling innovation.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about creating world-class digital journalism and wants to have fun while they work.

If this sounds like you, then connect with us today.

Stuff embraces all aspects of diversity and inclusion and is committed to creating a workplace which reflects the incredibly diverse customers, audiences and communities we serve.
