About Social Investment Agency (SIA)
SIA is a small government department with a big purpose; investing in social wellbeing through improved decision making. This is achieved by demonstrating the value of using data, evidence and technology to support decision-making across the social system, trialling new and innovative ways of working with government and NGOs, and developing social system tools and infrastructure that all agencies can use. Because they are small, they can be agile and continually explore and test their thinking in order to develop the best approach.
The Role of Manager Analytics
The Manager Analytics leads the team responsible for developing analytical products that help organisations understand the value of their data for the purpose of social intervention. Having responsibility for leading the data science team you will have overall ownership for ensuring the analytics roadmap is consistent with that of the SIA’s priorities to the social sector. You will also work closely with the Manager Data Systems to deliver key programmes of work and lead cross-agency initiatives to promote measurements of intervention.
Reporting to the Director Data Systems and Analytics, this key leadership role will influence externally to define areas of critical relevance and work internally with the Director Insights and Chief Science Adviser to develop effective measurements of social wellbeing.
The Person – How You Will Make an Impact
You truly get the value of data and the role it can play in informed decision making. With a successful background in leading a high performing analytical / data science team you use critical thinking to make effective decisions within a complex sector.
You empower your team to work in an agile manner (develop, test, execute/refine) and have experience leading projects through to completion. You are not only an aspirational leader to your team but can manage upwards in order to get things done. You are resilient (don’t accept failure) and enjoy using curiosity to be innovative in delivering socially meaningful decisions.
You are well versed in analytical techniques and are familiar with statistical products such as R and SAS. A relevant qualification (Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics Operations Research etc.,) would be beneficial as is prior experience using the Statistics NZ IDI.
You enjoy working in a role with true purpose to change the lives of New Zealanders for the better.
