Are you passionate about protecting our environment? There are now more exotic plants growing wild in New Zealand than native plants. Many of these are threatening our regions parks and reserves, and others are invading our productive land.
We are looking for a Masterton based Biosecurity Officer (Pest Plants) to help us control this influx and to help minimise their impact. The person we are seeking will be required to undertake functions as described in Greater Wellington's Regional Pest Management Strategy and other related duties with a particular focus on implementing and managing a survey and control programme for pest plants throughout the region.
The position requires regular contact with public, land occupiers, and various organisations.
This is a fixed term role for 12 months covering parental leave.
The person we are seeking will have:
- Hold (or obtain) Level 4 of the National Certificate of Pest Plant Control or have relevant tertiary qualification in botany, ecology or similar discipline, or proven competence and training in pest plant management
- Working experience in the field of pest plant management.
- Strong skills in plant monitoring and assessment techniques
- Hold or be prepared to obtain "Registered Chemical Applicator" certification
- Good public relations skills and ability to work with a wide range of individuals and organisations
- Good Microsoft and Arc GIS experience and competency
- Strong team work ethic but also an ability to work as an individual
You will need to be self-motivated, have a good level of physical fitness and be able to work in an outdoor environment.
