ABOUT THE COMPANY

ABOUT THE ROLE 

Te Whare Ra Uta is the inpatient unit for Mental Health Service Older Persons (MHSOP) within MHAIDS. MHAIDS is the mental health, addictions and intellectual disability service for the Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital & Coast District Health Boards.

Te Whare Ra is a 16 bed unit providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services for individuals with a wide range of mental health challenges. MHSOP primarily serves individuals presenting with recent onset functional illness over the age of 65 and dementia associated with significant behavioural and psychological symptoms (BPSD).

We are looking for a Health Care Assistant or Mental Health Support Worker to join our established and dedicated multidisciplinary team. You will be working under the delegation of a Registered Nurse and working with individual clients to support them in activities of daily living, assist with observations to support our assessment processes and to ensure routine non clinical tasks are completed as required on a day to day basis.

You will be flexible and willing to work collaboratively as part of a team to provide quality care and assessment to meet identified client needs.

This role is 0.8FTE 4 days a week including morning, afternoon and night shifts.

DUTIES 

  • Assist with personal cares as directed by Registered Nurse.
  • To support/escort clients to outpatient appointments
  • Provide observation levels (watches, documented observation level)
  • Encourage and take part in structured activities
  • To ensure the basic needs of the ward are met, routine non clinical tasks are completed as required and on a day to day basis , client clothing washed and dried.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • 1 years’ experience as a Heath Care Assistant or Mental Health Support Worker
  • Level 3 Mental Health Support Worker or prepared to work towards this in the first 12 months
  • Interest in working in older persons mental health
  • Full drivers licence required
