TRJT is an Independent Charitable Trust that was established as the Tauranga Moana Restorative Justice Trust in 2004.  The Trust provides restorative justice services in the Tauranga and Waikato regions.  Restorative Justice is a process of dealing with crime that focuses on the needs of the victims (including the community), identifies what the victim needs to help repair the harm done to them and holds offenders to account for their actions.

Restorative Justice has witnessed tremendous growth since its inception and is at a critical stage of development.  This is due to a change in legislation which enables victims of crime even greater access to participate in the judicial process.  The Trust is also looking to diversify its services of restorative justice.

The General Manager will lead and manage the Trust into the next chapter of its life as it continues to play a vital role in creating peaceful communities.  Reporting to the Board, the General Manager will need to have a passion for making a difference, along with a demonstrated record of success in leading and managing a community-based organisation within the not for profit sector.

The General Manager will have overall responsibility and accountability to drive, co-ordinate and support the ongoing business operation of the Trust.   Looking at how the Trust could diversify its services is an important and exciting development that the General Manager would lead alongside the Trust Board.

The critical components of this role include:

  • Working closely with key stakeholders to ensure effective provision of services in the BOP and Waikato regions
  • Managing the contractual obligations of the Trust
  • Leading the implementation of the Trust’s strategic plan
  • Ensuring the efficient and timely administration of referrals and supervising the adherence to referral reporting systems
  • Managing the Human Resource requirements by providing ongoing leadership, and managing a small office including staff and sub-contractors across both regions
  • Supporting and mentoring the team to achieve results both individually and collectively
  • An up to date awareness of ongoing trends, events and opportunities within the community, including future development of restorative practices across the BOP and Waikato regions
  • Ensuring the overall performance of the Trust is delivering to expectation, administratively, including fiscal and cashflow responsibilities
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders
  • Community engagement, including presenting and facilitating discussions with key community groups
The successful candidate will have knowledge of the restorative justice process and its application, including a sound understanding of the criminal justice system.  You’ll also need to have an understanding and insight into the impacts of offending behaviour, crime and the court system on victims, offenders, families and communities, and a working knowledge of existing community networks within the region the Trust is delivering to.

We seek a highly motivated and passionate leader who has exceptional relational focus, communication, planning and organisational skills, with experience across tending for government-based contracts, along with the management and delivery of service based contracts.  As the General Manager you will naturally have a strong sense of cultural empathy with the ability to facilitate between different social and cultural backgrounds. The ability to incorporate aspects of Tikanga Māori into organisational practices is also a key expectation.  Working with a volunteer board, you will have a practical and can-do approach to your role and an appreciation for working with key stakeholders.
