Fostering Kids New Zealand is the voice of Fostering families in New Zealand. We recognise the importance of working together toward positive outcomes for children in care. Fostering Kids NZ’s focus is to provide support services to all those caring for children not biologically their own. This includes grandparents raising grandchildren, whanau/kin carers and those providing a permanent home.

We are looking for a Regional Coordinator based in a community office space, to provide support and training to care families in the South Auckland region (covering Manukau, Beachlands down and including Waikato, Paeroa and Coromandel areas). You will provide a link between Fostering Kids NZ, our members, various agencies, community groups, caregiver groups and individuals. Experience in the Fostercare sector would be preferred.
Some of the key duties will include:
- Working closely with the Manager Training & Support to provide advocacy and support for Foster/Whanau/Kin/Permanent Caregivers
- Delivering training to Foster/Whanau/Kin/Permanent Caregivers (primarily one day workshops and discussion forums)
- Promote the bicultural relationship between our organisation and whanau caregivers
- Attend face to face national team meetings, national conference and regional visits including a number of overnight stays.
The successful candidate must be:
- Able to work in cross-cultural situations
- Able to provide your own vehicle and hold a current drivers licence
- Computer literate and a confident user of programmes and social media
- Informed, yet have a flexible approach to their work
- Eligible to work in New Zealand.
The ideal candidate may also demonstrate:
- A working knowledge of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
- Excellent interpersonal, mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- An experienced, competent trainer, with expert knowledge about adult education principles
- An understanding of social work and working knowledge of foster care practice and procedures
- Some knowledge and understanding of the legislation and policies pertaining to whanau/foster care, e.g. Oranga Tamariki Act 1989, Children’s and Young People’s Well-being Act 1989 and the Care of Children Act 2004.
