Merivale Whanau Development Centre is a Christian therapeutic community which delivers a residential programme for up to 8 families at a time. We provide practical and emotional support in a safe and therapeutic environment for women and children where there are care and protection concerns for the children.
We are looking for an individual who is skilled in supporting positive parenting behaviour, and creating a safe and stable environment.
Your responsibilities may include supporting mothers and their children with afternoon and evening routines, completing administration and household tasks and ensuring the safety of the families through the night.
This is a rewarding role which needs someone who is energetic, practical and has a 'can do' attitude.
This position is casual with various shifts in the afternoons and through nights as well as day shifts on the weekend.
Person specifications:
- Experience in working in a residential setting or supporting mothers with child care.
- Knowledge of children's development, health and behaviours
- Proven ability to develop age appropriate children's activities
- Knowledge of sound parenting strategies and ability to communicate with parents
- Fairness and honesty in relationship with all residents and staff
- A commitment to learn and reflect on own reactions and behaviours
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Sound knowledge of using a computer
- Understanding of Health and Safety procedures and requirements
- Commitment to the Christian values and culture of Iosis and a willingness to participate in regular team and corporate devotions and meetings
