The Open Polytechnic is currently developing a new programme leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education. The programme includes three 20-credit courses at level 4 on the NZQA qualifications framework. We are currently looking for writers to help us develop those courses.
One course will be developed over a period of 5-6 months. You will need to commit around 200 hours over this period. Depending on the final scope of the work, we expect the value of the contract to be around $17,000 excluding GST.
To take advantage of this opportunity you will need to:
- Have an up to date academic knowledge and practical experience of early childhood education.
- Have experience teaching adult learners.
- Be able to write engaging, original and plain English content for a completely online environment
- Be able to produce online activities for students that prepare them for formal assessments
- Be able to write formal assessments
- Be willing to work on a team-based projects to a deadline.

Writing sample
Purpose
The purpose of the writing sample is for you to demonstrate your ability to:
- author learning materials and assessments at an appropriate level
- structure material logically
- create original work (we use TurnItIn to establish originality)
- use APA referencing correctly
- follow written task instructions - apply industry knowledge, experience and research to a specific educational design task.
Context
This task is related to this learning outcome:
- Demonstrate understanding of the role of the Aotearoa New Zealand early childhood regulatory framework for supporting the health and wellbeing of young children in a specific early childhood context.
Instructions
Develop and submit the following learning resources, pitched at Level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework and suitable for online delivery to adult distance students:
- An outline of a summative assessment task that effectively measures whether or not students have achieved this learning outcome.
- An outline (topics, heading, sub-headings and brief annotations if relevant) of a chunk of learning material based around this learning outcome and the content focus provided.
- A sample of a page within this learning material that covers one of the topics you have included in the outline. This page should be:
- brief - no more than 500 words
- written in an approachable explanatory style appropriate to the level of the student
- include references to relevant 'real-world' practices and examples
- be clearly laid out with relevant headings and sub-headings
- include at least one complete formative activity that will scaffold the student towards the final assessment
- Shows knowledge of current research and approaches to early childhood teaching practice.
4. List of five relevant online and print resources (these may include industry documents, relevant videos, diagrams or websites) that you could refer students to for further information
The completed writing sample should not exceed 1000 words.
