About the Role
Do you want to make a difference in the lives of young people? Do you want to lead our centres youth development activities and support community development?
This position will be part-time, 20 hours per week, involved with coordinating the Youth Programmes and overseeing the delivery of our youth development programme called ‘Raise Up’, in our YMCA Tauranga centre. The hours of work will mostly be Monday-Friday, but there may be some weekend work as well. The Raise Up programme is designed for 13-18 year olds and is run from 11 sites across the Auckland/Waikato region, at the core of each programme is a crew of 20 young people.
The Raise Up Crews meet weekly to plan, develop and implement events, workshops and activities for young people within their local community. Raise Up develops life skills, supports community involvement and empowers young people to be all that they can be.
To be successful in this role you will need to be a self-starter who can connect with, inspire and guide young people. You will utilise event planning, marketing and management skills to help organise events, programmes, activities and workshops for young people to participate in. You will also be responsible for networking and building relationships with key stakeholders, Local Boards and other community groups.
The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written English communication skills and a current driver’s licence. Applicants need to have experience working with young people, a tertiary qualification in a relevant area (e.g. youth, teaching, recreation, sports or event management) would be an advantage. Being passionate about helping young people develop is essential!
