We are embarking on one of the largest housing building programmes this country has seen in decades as we significantly increase the number of homes we provide and improve the quality of our current stock.

 

The role you’ll play

This team will leverage this unprecedented investment in property development and maintenance to reshape the supplier landscape nationally as necessary to reach Housing New Zealand’s goals. Solving New Zealand’s housing challenges will require the development of new and sustainable supplier markets and growing New Zealand businesses and skill base to ultimately accelerate innovation and productivity in the construction supply chain.  You will work closely with Housing New Zealand’s property services and construction professionals to deliver commercial outcomes that make a real difference for New Zealand and New Zealanders.

No procurement team in New Zealand has the same opportunity to look internationally to influence and disrupt a sector at this scale. Nor do other roles come close to having the same level of positive commercial and social benefit, directly influencing the lives and wellbeing of Kiwis through healthier and more accessible housing.

 

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Senior Procurement Specialist will contribute to the direction and execution of procurement initiatives as well as leading and delivering projects. This is a hands-on role where you will plan, manage and execute procurement initiatives across the procurement lifecycle (plan, source, manage) in a commercially appropriate manner focused of delivering value-for-money that upholds HNZ’s professional reputation.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Ensure that HNZC achieves Value for Money in its sourcing activities
  • Actively influence day to day decisions, shaping strategy and the direction of the business group
  • Positively contribute to HNZ’s procurement function being recognised for commercial outcomes, and good practice procurement and sourcing
  • Leverage relationships with internal and external peers to create a collaborative approach in identifying opportunities and solving business challenges
  • Deliver outcomes in a commercial manner, utilising HNZ’s procurement processes, procedures and toolkit to deliver good practice sourcing and commercial supplier management within assigned categories
     

About you & what’s in it for you

You will probably have experience in a challenging procurement environment, preferably a centralised function. Experience leading multiple complex procurement projects concurrently will be great, as will the demonstrated ability to persuade and influence people and make hard decisions.  Personally, you’ll relish and thrive in a high pace environment.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster good stakeholder relationships through consultation and partnership and be able to work at all levels both within the business and externally. You’ll also probably have MCIPS or be studying towards it or equivalent experience and an extensive knowledge of procurement concepts, methodologies and commercial practices.
