ABOUT PARALYMPICS NEW ZEALAND (PNZ)

PNZ is the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) for New Zealand. It leads teams to the Paralympic Games every two years, manages High Performance Para sport programmes, advocates for more accessibility to sport for disabled people and is responsible for increasing community awareness and engagement with disability. As a member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), PNZ is part of a worldwide social change movement involving 175 member countries, which use the power of sport to positively influence community perceptions of disability and promote diversity and inclusion.

Over 2.2m kiwis watched the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and 1.6m watched the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games via TVNZ/Attitude. In 2018, PNZ celebrates its 50th Anniversary. PNZ is looking for passionate, highly motivated people to join the award-winning PNZ Commercial Team in the run up to Tokyo 2020, with the campaign going live in September on the ‘2 years to go’ milestone.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The PNZ Events & Digital Coordinator will be responsible for delivering the ‘Paralympic Community Events Programme’ planned through until December 2020 and supporting roll-out of PNZ’s digital and social media strategy, working directly into the PNZ Communications Manager. This includes 12x community events around the country to recognise New Zealand’s 209 Paralympians and to introduce Tokyo 2020 hopefuls, the annual Prime Ministers’ Dinner and 5+ related Tokyo 2020 milestone events.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Tertiary qualification and/or knowledge and/or experience in sport, not-for-profit or events.
  • 2+ years’ events work experience in a similar role or in national and / or local event delivery.
  • Key event skills, including planning, budgeting and reporting; logistical expertise.
  • An interest in people and expertise in managing multiple stakeholder relationships.
  • Writing skills and ability to create publishable content. Filming and editing skills welcome.
  • Digital and social media experience, including an interest in managing online communities.
  • A clear understanding of how events and digital activity contribute to wider brand strategies.
  • Organised, with an ability to work on multiple projects at the same time under strict timelines.
  • Confident and personable; comfortable being the main events liaison for the organisation.
  • Team player, with the ability to take direction and work independently with basic supervision.
  • Ability to travel and potentially work some weekends to help deliver activity around New Zealand.

This is a new fixed term, full-time role available now until December 2020, with extension possible. It represents a rare and exciting opportunity to help PNZ celebrate the sporting achievements of disabled New Zealanders since 1968 and drive engagement with the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
