The Position:

An opportunity has arisen for a talented Communications Specialist to take ownership and contribute to the planning and direction within this unique and varied role. The focus will be to establish and maintain communication channels for target audiences, to tell YMCA's story, raise profile and drive advocacy for the YMCA's brand.

Reporting to the GM of Brand & Customer, this is a sole charge position managing all internal and external communications, identifying and maintaining key media relationships, as well as taking the lead on PR and social media.  Working with diverse teams and business units, you will craft content online and in traditional media. You will deliver compelling material working closely with internal and external stakeholders to attract, retain and successfully deliver services to the community.

To be successful you will need to be able to work at pace and be able to communicate well with a varied range of internal and external audiences. You will have the confidence and willingness to own this role and to help contribute to drive the direction of the Customer and Brand team strategies. We expect this person to be out in the field getting the pictures, capturing the video and interviewing participants to get their stories before they package the content up for use in multiple channels.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Proven ability to translate information into clear compelling messages and develop content to create targeted effective communication. 
  • Previous experience handling media enquiries, preparing holding statements and releases as well as coaching stakeholders.
  • Confident to working under tight deadline and managing multiple projects.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and be able to work autonomously.
  • Have high attention to detail. Nothing will either go out unless every ‘I’ has been dotted and every ‘T’ has been crossed. – Twice.
  • Basic photography, videography or video editing skills would be highly advantageous but are not essential.
