About the business

The Papua New Guinea (PNG) - Australia Governance Partnership has been established as the arrangement in which the Government of Australia (GoA) supports the Government of Papua New Guinea (GoPNG) to deliver its priorities through an innovative suite of partnerships. Using a facility model, Abt PNG is supporting six of these Partnerships which are:

  • Public Sector Leadership and Reform Partnership
  • Decentralisation and Citizen Participation Partnership
  • Economic Governance and Inclusive Growth Partnership
  • Kokoda Initiative Partnership
  • Bougainville Partnership
  • PNG Partnership Fund

Abt PNG Management Services (AMS) supports the delivery of the partnerships. It is designed to maximize the value and benefits of the facility model through cost and implementation efficiencies, as well as learning, cross-fertilisation and joint programming between partnerships with the ultimate goal of contributing to security, stability and inclusive prosperity for all Papua New Guineans.

About the role

The Director, People, Culture & Diversity is a new position within the AMS Executive Leadership Team. Reporting to the Executive Director, Partnerships, this is a strategic role accountable for; driving organisational change at a critical stage of Facility evolution, developing a long-term People Strategy and leading an effective and high performing People and Culture team to achieve objectives around:

  • Gender and diversity
  • Organisational culture and change
  • Leadership and staff development
  • Succession planning and career pathways
  • Recruitment and retention
  • Performance management

Skills and experience

The successful candidate will bring demonstrated expertise in effective and strategic HR delivery with results achieved across diverse HR environments ideally within an international development context. You will be an exceptional leader and a trusted adviser for your peers. Further requirements include:

  • 15+ years generalist Human Resources experience with proven experience leading a function, building and implementing HR strategy in line with wider strategic business plans.
  • Proven knowledge of leadership and staff development, change management.
  • Significant strategic and practical experience of gender and inclusion, disability inclusion (experience in a developing country essential).
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven experience in developing and maintaining relationships with ability to influence internally and externally at all levels.
