As Network Engineer, you will assist in the management of the Defence Data Centre environment, and be responsible for deploying and supporting server and applications infrastructure, WEB and database deployments for ABRS & MBRS applications, storage systems and disaster recovery, and backup and data protection systems and operational system security. 

The Network Engineer will utilise their knowledge in providing advice to DEBU relating to Billing Infrastructure requirements, as well as implement Defence network changes as designed for the billing solution, act as a Subject Matter Expert for individual business initiatives based on domain expertise, raise faults with technology providers, provide capacity planning advice, monitor server capacity and disk utilization, and negotiate planned outages for maintenance. Planning their own workload, the Network Engineer will work to meet agreed deliverables and service levels to achieve deliverables in required time frames.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • NV1 Security Clearance is essential
  • 3 years minimum experience operating a Production Data Centre environment
  • 3-5 years minimum experience managing a Windows based IT environment
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
  • An in-depth knowledge of Network Architecture, interconnectivity with other networks - including proxy configuration, and Web server configuration
  • Ability to proactively analyse performance and resource utilisation to ensure platform stability and reliability
  • Ability to work within the Defence change management, configuration management, incident and problem management processes
  • Knowledge of Microsoft forefront unified access gateway (FUAG)
  • A consultative approach to problem solving
  • Knowledge of Network hardware configuration; and
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Internet Information Services, and SQL Server 2008r2/2016
